One of the most exciting aspects of our new house is my new wine cellar.
Working with our builder, I took a 12' x 10' space in the basement and ensured that it had the appropriate construction for a cellar including extensive insulation (walls, ceiling and subfloor).
I then contracted out to Rosehill Wine Cellars who designed and installed the racking. While the room is designed to be a great, good looking room, I wanted to maximize the storage capacity. Rosehill did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them for cellar projects like mine.
Here's a site with some pictures of the finished and partially filled. I have dozens of pictures detailing the entire construction process and I'll post a timeline from excavation to completion soon.
Some interesting details/stats:
- 2200 bottle capacity
- racking is custom, white-oak
- double-deep racks on the lower portion, single-deep upper
- mix of individual racks, diamond racks and full case bins
- water-based cooling system requires no external ventilation
- sandstone (Panther, honed) floor
After considering several different options for tracking my wine collection, I've settled on the fantastic CellarTracker web service. Entering my 800+ bottle collection was much easier than I anticpated and it is very helpful that there is such a large community contributing wine details, tasting notes and drinking window details.
Wow. Extremely Nice. I am envious.

So very, very jealous. I just returned from a trip to Australia & New Zealand with 20 bottles. They would have loved a home like that.

What is the coolest or most unique wine bottle that you have ever seen?

Hey,
Congrats on the new wine cellar. I live in a apartment and have a wine fridge but for my really good wine I store my wine at the Fine Wine Reserve. They have an amazing facility, top notch secuity,
24 hour access and my favorite part... the tasting room. It is great! :D
