2005 Bordeaux Futures at Vintages
Vintages has launched the first wave of 2005 Bordeaux futures. This is a very hyped vintage and the prices have gone through the roof. The way futures buying works is that even though the wine has yet to be bottled, it is sold from the chateaux through various distrbution networks. By purchasing early in great years, you tend to get a much better price than if you wait until the wine is formally available.
It is very hard to tell what will happen with 2005 pricing. The reviews are strong but the prices are nearly out of control.
There's a thread about the LCBO on eGullet (http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=89771) and there's been some discussion of the high price of this offer.

Thanks for the pointer to eGullet. The prices around the world are out of control, putting Ontario well beyond anything that can be considered to be sane for a bottle of wine.

The 2005 futures are coming soon. They have some incredible values - my money is on the Chateau Puygueraud and also the Pipeau, which was recently featured by Wine Spectator (subscription required). I wrote a little about the Puygueraud here, in case you are interested...
