Ontario Wine Week was officially declared by the provincial government in June 2005 recognizing the importance of the wine industry in our province. Since Ontario Wine Week's inception the Ontario wine industry has worked in unison to create exciting festivals, tasting opportunities, auctions, winemaker dinners, and restaurant promotions all surrounding Ontario wines. In 2007, 'sip Ontario' was born, a collaboration of events and awards that recognize Ontario's award-winning wines.
Building on this success, 'sip Ontario' is now striving to bring Ontario wines and food together as a platform to show consumers the full variety and flavour that Ontario has to offer. That being said, 'sip Ontario' is proud to partner with Savour Ontario, a program developed by Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The Savour Ontario dining program is part of Ontario's Pick Ontario Freshness strategy, created to encourage and assist consumers in choosing locally grown and produced foods. The Savour Ontario dining program promotes the fresh, high quality foods grown in Ontario by making them easily identifiable on menus around the province. Held during Ontario Wine Week, sip&Savour Ontario has attracted media and consumer attention and has grown into one of the most popular and highly anticipated wine tasting events in the GTA.
