It's Auction Season…
Now that summer has turned to autumn, wine auction season is upon us.
The big daddy of the auction scene here in Toronto is the Vintages / Ritchies Finest & Rarest Wine Auction. This year, the auction has been split in to two different events. The first is being held Oct 24, 25 and 26th. The second session is to be held Dec 6 and 7th.
As in years past, there's a Pre-Auction Gala Tasting at the Carlu. Last year, the pre-auction gala was one of the best wine tasting events I've enjoyed ever. How often to you get a chance to taste 1945 Chateau Talbot? And this year, the first night of the auction is held at Centro Restaurant with a pre-auction tasting and dinner.
The two auction catalogues are out and I received mine this morning. Lots of interesting wine but as always, the price estimates are on the high side.
Details on the auction and tasting(s) can be found at the Vintages website here.
Ritchies is also involved in another large fine wine auction - The Toronto Symphony Orchestra auction. This looks like an interesting auction as well. Details can be found at the Ritchies auction house site here.
The big question is: With the meltdown in equity markets and all fear uncertainty and doubt about how much we will be affected in the great white north, will there be any deals to be had? In the last three years, the bargains have been few and far between. We shall see!
