Here's an interesting story today in the Globe that describes how investments in new wineries are helping to transform previously depressed agricultural areas.
You can definitely see this in Prince Edward County with new wineries opening up, leading to great new restaurants, artisan shops, improved roads and greater awareness for people like us living in Toronto looking for a new favourite place to visit.
The trick of course is to not let development overwhelm a place and ruin the unique feel that attracted people there in the first place. Sonoma Valley has been largely able to retain its "off the beaten path" personality whereas Napa has become the Disneyland of wine regions with tour buses and palatial wineries overwhelming the landscape.
